WHAT IS HYPNOSIS?
There are two parts of our mind; the conscious mind comprising 10% of our brain function which analyzes, thinks, plans, and includes short term memory, and the sub-conscious mind comprising 90% of our brain function which includes long term memory, emotions and feelings, habit and relationship patterns, addictions, involuntary bodily functions and creativity.
Hypnosis is simply focused attention and an altered state; a guided meditation with a goal for change in mind. You are guided into a trance state (alpha brain waves) which allows your critical conscious mind to be bypassed. In this state, you are creative, alert and relaxed. There is a lot of great research as to why alpha state is the best state to enhance creativity, performance, and athletic performance. Simply put, the human mind is complex and has many layers to it. While it can take years with regular talk therapy to find what the core issue of a problem really is, the great thing about hypnosis is that we can access the subconscious directly and so can find the answers we are looking for more effectively.
All hypnosis is self-hypnosis, so the hypnotist is never in control of the hypnotized. You can expect to feel positive and fairly immediate changes in your sensations, perceptions, thoughts, feelings and behaviours. Often, you’ll feel the shift right away and sometimes you’ll notice it within a week or so. The exciting thing is that it doesn’t take long for you to get to where you want to go. All you need is belief (99% of people can be hypnotized), to pay attention, give it time and relax into it. If you can visualize yourself accomplishing your goals, you can actualize them as the subconscious mind does not know the difference between real and imagined.
